Borderland Families--Always on the Edge: Journey of the Lykins, Peery and Heiskell Families along the Missouri and Kansas Border
Borderland Families--Always on the Edge: Journey of the Lykins, Peery and Heiskell Families along the Missouri and Kansas Border by Rose Ann Findlen. One of the more distinguishing features of Borderland Families Always on the Edge is that it is in the genre of cluster family histories/genealogies. At the national level, many family historians are promoting the idea of using the "cluster" approach because it gives a richer, more nuanced, view of how our ancestors lived, what motivated them and how they were both shapers of and shaped by the events of their day. It takes family history readers and writers beyond the "tree-climbing" mode and into more interpretation and analysis. The book features a large number of photographs, family writing, and documents of the time.
